Now I'll put it this way, if I pay a premium for a Fuzz Pedal it's for NOS transistor selection and that's just scarcity. They finally got it right with that last Jimi pedal, at least as close as you can building at that scale. Now granted Germanium transistors these days are tricky to get right, but even the silicon transistors were way over spec on any I handled. They only had one thing to get right and that was the transistors. Most boutique pedals are minor tweaks or an additional switch/tone control on top of a Fuzz Face or Tonebender circuit.ĭunlop spent years failing miserably cloning the Fuzz Face. There are only a handful of circuits that cover ALL fuzz pedals. I'll tell you what, I'm a cynic at the best of times when it comes to boutique or expensive fuzz pedals.
